Supergiant Games, the indie studio that brought us the excellent games Bastion and Transistor, has announced its third title – Pyre.
After watching the reveal trailer, it’s obvious Pyre will enjoy the same beautiful style Supergiant is known for. The game’s soundtrack is also composed by Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett, the pair who did the music for Bastion and Transistor. However, Pyre seems to be somewhat different as well.
Instead of focusing on one heroic character, the game stars a group of masked exiles that make up your party. You’ll control these exiles as they seek to learn the truth about the Rites, a secret competition that can determine which exile can go back home, and who will stay in the mystical purgatory forever.
Pyre’s gameplay is divided into two parts. As you journey through purgatory, you will control the party’s custom wagon in the world map. Supergiant say this part will involve making decisions that will eventually determine the fate of the different characters you meet along the way.
The other part is the fast-paced combat against rival groups who will not give up on their chance of redemption so easily. The Rites is still a competition, and you’ll need to fight to win your freedom.
Pyre will be available on PC and PlayStation 4 in 2017.
