From this day forth, Hellblade by Ninja Theory shall be known as Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Senua, of course, is the game’s protagonist who suffers from mental illness and hallucinations. What’s this supposed “sacrifice” she will be making, we still don’t know.
but the real news is the game’s new trailer, which was created in Unreal 4 and was generated in real-time. That’s right, Senua’s face, dialogue and body movements in the trailer were all captured and transmitted to the video in real-time, during Unreal’s keynote at GDC. Participants could see the actress in full motion-capture rig, delivering the intense performance you see above in front of their eyes.
Tameem Antoniades, Chief Designer at Ninja Theory, says that this is how the studio is capturing every performance in the game. The developer diary below shows how the studio is able to achieve that with a relatively small team and budget.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is due to release sometime this year.
