XCOM 2 has received its first major patch which includes many fixes, balance tweaks, and several performance optimizations that should improve framerates and in-game delays. The patch will be automatically installed through Steam, so there’s not much you need to do in order for it to take effect.

The patch also adds a new feature known as Zip Mode, which speeds up animations and fixes some delays in the game that allows for a more fast-paced experience whilst playing.

One issue with the update is that it will throw off some mods, but general consensus is that most work once you start up the game, close it, and restart it again. Turning it off and on again always works. There are some mods that will conflict with the patch but never fear; the game is being continually improved as time goes on. Firaxis have said that they’re going to update the game in the coming months, and that the XCOM 2 team are working hard all the while.

For the full list of patch notes, read up on the XCOM website. It’s good to know Firaxis is working hard on continuously improving the XCOM 2 experience, and the promise of future updates is similarly exciting.
