HTC and Valve have announced the release dates and price of their brand new and original VR headset – the HTC Vive. Hopefully you’ve been saving for a very rainy day, since it will cost you a pretty penny.
The Vive is priced at $799, which seems like a very hefty sum of money, especially when compared to the Oculas Rift, which is $200 cheaper. However, the Vive ships with wto very unique and interesting wireless controllers, and 360 degree tracking and room scale sensors.
You can pre-order your very own Vive starting Monday, February 29 at 10am Eastern time. The fully commercial release date is going to be early April 2016. It should also be noted that for for a limited time, the Vive is going to ship with two full VR experiences: Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption.
The consumer edition will build upon the features first introduce with the Vive Pre. For example, it will integrate phone functionality, as users will be able to receive and send calls and text messages directly from the headset.
Now all you have to do is make your choice between the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. Good luck.
