Team17 has announced it will publish Way to the Woods, a game by Anthony Tan. Tan is a 16-year-old, Melbourne based student and independent developer from Studio Happy Bee.

In Way to the Woods, you play as a deer and her fawn as they explore a “strange world filled with surreal imagery”. According to the developer, the game is inspired by the work of Studio Ghibli, and will also feature a soundtrack by London based musician and composer Jeremy Warmsley.

The first attracted the attention of Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games. After Murray tweeted the stunning screenshots you see below, Team17 decided to approach the young developer and strike a partnership.

“Way to the Woods is an absolutely beautiful, unique looking game and upon speaking with Anthony, we could not have been more impressed,” said Debbie Bestwick, CEO of Team17. “I personally can’t wait to help Anthony achieve his goals. We’re extremely excited to be here to share this journey with him.”

Tan, on his side, seems to be very excited to work with Team 17. “To join a label that is responsible for helping teams such as Playtonic, Lilith, Mouldy Toof and many more is like a dream come true! I’m so excited to be working with an experienced label like Team17 and I’m confident that it’s the right positive step for Way to the Woods,” he said.

Way to the Woods is currently a PC title only, although with the help of Team 17 it could be also coming to consoles. There’s no information on when the game’s coming out, but we can still enjoy the game’s visuals by browsing the few screenshots released by Anthony Tan.
