NCsoft has recently announced a new “action MOBA” called Master X Master, otherwise known as MXM. The game will feature the usual PvP combat of a MOBA in a variety of modes, as well as a four-player co-op story mode. However, it adds a new twist to the formula. MXM has an interesting tag system, which allows players to choose two “Masters” from a roster of 30, and swap between them during combat.
According to NCsoft, the term “action MOBA” comes from the ability to change how you can interact with the character in the game. Unlike many simple point-and-click MMOs and MOBAs, MXM will feature the ability to move fluidly around the environment – ducking, dodging and jumping, as displayed in the release trailer, albeit in a more cinematic manner.
The game features a number of diverse and beautiful-looking arenas, as shown in the screenshots. The Masters featured in the game are all diverse, but many also hail from previous NCsoft MMO titles, like Guild Wars 2 and Blade & Soul. All of the different characters will function differently, and the tag system means that players can change their strategy on the go – switching out a heavy tank for a faster ally when the situation calls for it.
It has not been suggested whether Master X Master is paid or free to play, but it is due out in North America and Europe in the second half of 2016. For more information, head to the Master X Master official site.
