Gearbox and Blackbird Interactive have just released a new trailer for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, an upcoming title in the veteran Homeworld strategy series.

The trailer is a sort of story trailer and gives a little background on the desert world the game takes place on. Apparently, the planet is dying as the desert grows “with every passing year”. As a result, a war has broken out among the human population to reach the “Primary Anomaly” – a mysterious artifact that may help save the world.

Throughout the video, we see the battle ensues, with both large and small vehicles taking part in the fighting. There isn’t much gameplay showing in this trailer, except for some of the strategic warfare the game will include. However, we get a feel for the scale of Homeworld, as the eerie desert goes on for miles.

This one trailer is pretty much all we’re going to get before Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak’s official release on January 20, only 8 days away.
