Bandai Namco’s newest trailer for their upcoming fighting game, Pokken Tournament, takes a special look at the Wii U, and the new peripherals designed for it. The trailer is a larger than average collection of gameplay that shows all of the currently available characters in action, mixed in with a few Mega evolutions and some cool support Pokemon as well.
The tournament style of Pokemon battles fits right in with the universe, but to make the game feel more at home on the Wii U console, the developers have designed a new special controller. The updated design was featured on the game’s Japanese website and looks to be released on March 18, 2016.
The new controller is a simplified version of the Wii U pro controller, that is reminiscent of the original Super Nintendo and Sega controllers. Attacking and movements are delegated to the 4 buttons and D-Pad respectively. Making combos easier to pull off in quick succession, as well as escaping your enemy’s more deadly attacks.
Pokken Tournament will be coming to the Wii U in Spring of 2016, releasing with a special edition Shadow Mewtwo Amiibo card. The card has been introduced as a way of bringing a more diverse roster of Amiibo “in-game abilities”, without having to manufacture more of the collectible figurines.
The Shadow Mewtwo Amiibo card’s abilities have yet to be fully detailed, but will be released on December 26, according to the trailer. In the mean time, the new controller will be released in Japan in next March, with Pokken Tournament following soon after for the Wii U.
