Grand Theft Auto is undoubtedly the pinnacle – and the most controversial – of open-world games. Just two years ago Rockstar had released the much-hyped game Grand Theft Auto V, and added another huge success to its long-running series. However, now that GTA V has been released on all platforms, people are diverting their attention to the possibilities Grand Theft Auto VI might bring.
One rumor that has been floating around lately about the size of the game. Back in 2012, Rockstar president Leslie Benzies has mentioned the studio would like to have the player traveling between the cities of past games. “Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas,” Benzies said. “In that context re-imagining Vice City would be very interesting.”
There is already a fan-made photo that puts together all the maps of the Grand Theft Auto series into one coherent open-world. While it isn’t official, it proves that it can at least be done.
Dan Houser, co-founder and vice president of creativity at Rockstar, was asked in the past whether or not the next installment will have a playable female character as part of its story. “In the future, could we do a game with a lead female character? Of course,” Houser answered. “We just haven’t found the right game for it yet, but it’s one of the things that we always think about. It didn’t feel natural for this game but definitely for the right game in the future – with the right themes, it could be fantastic.”
Hopefully there is a considerable chance that GTA VI will have at least one playable female character.
There has also been speculation running around on what the possible release date can be. Now, it is obvious that nobody actually knows, not even the folks at Rockstar Games, but people have been wondering if they would continue to follow their patterns of releasing a new GrTA game every five or so years. The time window of this, then, would be anywhere between 2018 and 2019, with a more realistic approach of 2020. So there is still quite some time before we hear anything factual about the game.
So if we believe all the rumors, you can expect to travel between San Fierro, Liberty City, Vice City and Los Santos, as a tough female criminal, when GTA VI comes out on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC around 2019. Don’t forget to grab your complimentary bag of salt on your way out.
