Remember the amazing Kara tech demo, release a few years ago? It was about an android who discovered she could feel emotions and appeared to be sentient. At the end of the demo, Kara was spread by her operator and let loose into the world to live her so-called life. Well,Kara is back in a new game by Quantic Dream called Detroit.
“Many people were deeply moved by this character and felt empathy for this character who just wanted to live,” Quantic Dream director David Cage wrote. “But everyone had the same question: what happens to Kara when she leaves the factory?
“we imagined our world in a near future where androids like Kara would look, speak, and move like real human beings. We wondered how we — humans — would react if we were confronted with a new form of intelligence, how androids conceived as machines would be perceived if they started to have emotions.”
Judging by the trailer, it appears that Kara can somehow influence other androids simply by being next to them. It is unclear if it’s on purpose, or if the android just “sense” something different about her. We’ll know more in the near future, but in the meantime check out these beautiful screenshots.
