Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics have officially announced a wealth of new content for Rise of the Tomb Raider. The new content not only includes a Season Pass for the game, but new game modes as well as the addition of Expedition Cards.
The new game modes are some of the most important add-ons due to the amount of replayablity they bring to the series. Starting simple with Chapter Replay, players will be able to go back and experience different chapters of the game in order to earn credits, the in-game currency.Chapter Replay Elite challenges allow ers to use all of their upgraded weaponry to earn even more credits. Score Attack mode works similarly in that players replay earlier parts of the game, except with new rules added such as time limits and combo attack chains, earning players more credits and in-game medals.
However, the most exciting new game mode is Remnant Resistance, where in players can actually hand-craft their own unique levels by combining objectives, maps and enemies to create incredible experiences to share with the community. Players can then compete for high scores, challenge their friends and more.
Although the new gameplay will definitely enhance the experience of the new Tomb Raider game, all of that in-game currency would mean nothing if there isn’t anything to buy with it. This is where the Expedition Cards come into play. Expedition Cards packs are bought with credits earned in the new game modes, and essentially act as modifiers. Their effect can vary from the light hearted “Big head mode”, which is exactly what you think it is, to more serious cards that can be used to increase a chapter’s difficulty, for example.
One of the most intriguing new additions to Rise of the Tomb Raider, and also the one that the developers are most tight lipped about, is the upcoming DLC in the Season Pass. The three big pieces of content are planned as a way to extend the campaign and challenge veteran players. Endurance Mode will test the player’s ability to survive the intense Russian wilderness, as well as giving players the chance to play alongside their friends. Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch is a new tomb for Lara to explore, and Cold Darkness: Awakened will have her face wave and wave of infected predators.
This incredible lineup of content is set to begin its release on Day 1 of Rise of the Tomb Raider, and will feature more unannounced content such as new Expedition Cards, outfits and weapons. The game is available for pre-order now, but gamers everywhere will have to wait another month before they can experience Rise of the Tomb Raider when it is released on November 10 for Xbox One and Xbox 360.
