Ninja Theory was on hand at Gamescom 2015 to show off Hellblade, their newest project. While not an official trailer of gameplay video, the studio did release a B-roll video of unfiltered gameplay.

The new video demonstrates the horrific landscape that evolves from both your character’s dark surroundings and her broken mind. Protagonist Senua makes her way through a dark forest, encountering hellish nightmares and ghosts from her past as she attempts to find out if the darkness really is consuming her or if it is all simply in her head.

The ominous voice who speaks to Senua, and acts as a sort of narrator, horribly berates her while pushing her forward into the story in its own, twisted way.

From the main character’s the occasional run in with barbaric looking monsters with demonic heads, it appears that the gameplay less fast-paced than Ninja Theory’s previous project, and is more inclined to provide a deep story and one-on-one duels.

Hellblade’s dark descent into madness will begin next year on PC and PlayStation 4.
