Over the past few months, we all have been following Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate very closely. Now, a new story trailer was debuted during Gamescom, and it will send shivers down your spine.

Jacob and Evie Frye aren’t just the newest protagonists to the Assassin’s Creed series, but rather could be the redeeming force after Unity’s not-so-favorable release last year. Their story is powerful, and while we’ve had several glimpses into it so far, none have been so heart-felt than this one. Evie, in particular, has been mostly sidelined in a majority of the trailers so far, but this time, she and Jacob get equal screen time.

I can’t begin to describe how happy that makes me, as while Jacob isn’t a terrible character by any means, Evie seems to be a real driving force in the game.

They twins have been downtrodden and left in the dirt by a society that scorns not just them, but the people they represent. Victoria-era London was both a revolutionary yet corrupt city, and the Frye twins are dead-set on rectifying the darkness that surrounds the times. Though Black Flag brought a touch of this, I haven’t felt as connected to an Assassin’s Creed protagonist since AC II’s Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The values and fight that the Frye twins believe in strikes home; it’s all about family.

There are the obvious villains such as the corrupt and twisted bosses that run London’s gangs and factories, but what about the personal aspect? How will Syndicate handle the portrayal of Jacob and Evie’s quest for vengeance? Personally, I feel like there is a lot more to their story than just London as a whole being put to heel. What has happened with the Templars? How will the Assassins play into their fight?

We’ll have to be satisfied with this trailer snippet while we eagerly await Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s release come October 23, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
