Ubisoft has officially revealed the next Assassin’s Creed game, and it seems the rumors were right. Developed by Ubisoft Quebec for the last two years, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate was announced for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and scheduled for October 23. Here’s what we know so far.

“What a marvelous time to be alive,” exclaims Jacob Frye one of the game’s protagonists, as he describes the city of London in the midst of the Industrial Revolution. For great minds and deep pockets, new possibilities were being discovered every day. However, in the attempts of many to create a better world, they simultaneously enslave those on the bottom of the food chain.

As conditions worsen for the hardworking lower class, they are forced to fight back against a corrupt city by any means necessary, which is where our hero assassins come in.

Jacob Frye and his twin sister Evie are commoners of London who have been raised by the creed, becoming the greatest assassins of their time. Jacob specializes in hand to hand combat and daring driving, while his sister focuses her abilities on stealth while utilizing the city around her.

A key part of the story is expanding the Fryes’ gang and taking control of London’s boroughs. It also helps the brotherhood rid the city of templar influence, as the leaders of the seven rival gangs all happen to be templar knights.

The trailer above details the environment that players will explore – London in 1868, which Ubisoft claims is the largest and most modern open world the series has boasted to date. It also happens to be the most deadly. Among the technological advancements is an incredible amount of modern age weaponry. The standard revolver, brass knuckles, Kukri knife and sword cane give rise to a much more brutal combat style, aiming to maim your opponent before delivering the final blow.

Gone are the days of scaling high walls and impossibly tall towers. Replacing this beloved staple of the series is a projectile grappling hook that makes the smog-covered city all the more easy to navigate. This feature also gives players the ability to zipline from one building to the next. Players will also be able to use the hook to take down enemies from above, or even gain a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area.

Another new addition to the franchise are horse carriages, which the player can hire or even steal. They can use to chase down and even trample enemies, or simply travel around the immediate area. For travel on a larger scale, steam-powered boats and locomotives will allow players to move around the overall map faster than before.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate is set for October 23, but those who choose to pre-order the game will receive a bonus side mission titled “The Darwin and Dickens Conspiracy”. Concept art has been released of both characters, and could indicate that these creative minds are working on either side of the ages-old conflict.

An immense amount of information about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed title has been unveiled, but with E3 just around the corner, even more news is expected to drop. We’ll be there to bring mor news as they developed, but for now, check out these amazing new screenshots and concept art.
