Have you ever played an Assassin’s Creed game and thought to yourself “This would look AWESOME as a movie”? Well, it seems Ubisoft agrees and just two years from now, an Assassin’s Creed movie will be released – on December 21, 2016 if you want to be specific.
This (hopefully final) date is the culmination of a 4-year enterprise with a story almost as convoluted as the gaming franchise it portrays. Officially announced on July 2012 by Ubisoft, it was then rumored to be fast-tracked by October of the same year. Ubisoft even announced that by summer of 2013 they plan on having everything ready for filming, following a deal with Fox and New Regency.
Then, on April 2014, Ubisoft announced again that the film is to be entirely rewritten by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, two well-known writers with several successful movie adaptations under their belt. It seems that over the 4-year production, just about everything has changed except the star – Michael Fassbender for a yet-unnamed role. Still, not much information is known yet but given that the release date is almost two years away, that’s hardly surprising.
Still, let’s hope this will be the last date change and that we can finally see this project launch.
