After Terminal Reality’s botched The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, it would seem that no Walking Dead action game would succeed. After all, the franchise is very much non-action: it’s all about survival, not being noticed by the walkers, scavenging for resources and just living another day.

Yet, Overkill (of Payday 2 fame) is taking another crack at it. Together with Starbreeze Studio and series creator Robert Kirkman, the developer has announced a  new co-op action title by the name of Overkill’s The Walking Dead.

Classified as a “co-op first person shooter with elements of action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth”,  Overkill’s The Walking Dead casts players as survivor in an infested Washington D.C.

Not much else has been revealed as of now – as you can see in the trailer below, the game will be quite grim, but that’s really the only thing we know right now. No planned release platforms have been announced, and the only release date given was 2016. Let’s all hope for the best from this seasoned co-op FPS studio.
