Redacted Studios and Versus Evil are bringing back Afro Samurai to the PC and new-gen consoles.

“This upcoming third person action adventure includes an original storyline, new playable characters, and improved special moves and combos which firmly establishes the franchise as the undisputed leader in dynamic dismemberment,” said the publisher in a statement.

No further details about the game were divulged, but we can expect lots of sword fights.

Afro Samurai is a Japanese manga set in a futuristic feudal Japan and follows Afro, a young samurai on a quest for revenge against the man who killed his father. The manga was adapted into a animated series in 2007, starring Samuel L. Jackson with music by The RZA.

The last (and only) Afro Samurai game was released in early 2009 by Namco Bandai for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We’re not sure if the two games will be connected in anyway, but considering the new “original storyline”, we have our doubts.
