Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the rumored new Borderlands game, has been officially announced by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia. It’s a sequel to the original Borderlands, but a prequel to the events in Borderlands 2. Hence the clever new compound word – Pre-Sequel.
The two studios have released a video together, which basically confirms all the details that were already leaked online a couple of days ago. Watch it below to learn more.
Yes, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set on Pandora’s moon; yes, it tells the story of Handsome Jack’s rise to power from a lowly programmer; And yes, it features new playable characters. It also uses oxygen as both an essential life-sustaining gas, and a new strategic element in combat (jetpacks!).
Gearbox’s president Randy Pitchford promises environments will be diverse and fun. They will include the moon’s surface, with low gravity and rivers of magma, and the interior of Hyperion’s moonbase.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC later in 2014.
