Among The Sleep

Developer: Krillbite Studio

Publisher: Krillbite Studio

Release date: Q2 2014

Do you remember, as a little kid, what it was like laying in the dark, under the covers, just imagining all the horrible monsters lurking under your bed? Listening in terror to the creaking of the closet door, or to the wind howling outside? Krillbite Studio remembers, and it wants you to relive these moments in Among The Sleep. From the perspective of a two-year old toddler, even the ordinary becomes terrifying in the dark; luckily you have your cuddly teddy bear with you for comfort.

The Evil Within

The Evil Within

Developer: Tango Gameworks

Publisher: Bethesda

Release date: August 2014

The Evil Within is a new survival horror game from the mind of Shinji Mikami, the man who created the famous Resident Evil franchise. While the last few games of the zombie-infested series didn’t quite deliver on the horror front, The Evil Within hopes to return to the genre roots. With gore-filled environments, terrifying monsters and one huge guy with a chainsaw – It seems The Evil Within is well on its way to do so.

Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation

Developer: Creative Assembly

Publisher: SEGA

Release date: TBA 2014

The Alien franchise suffered a blow after the release of the disastrous Aliens: Colonial Marines. The Creative Assembly and Sega are attempting to first that by releasing Alien: Isolation – a game focusing on that wonderful sense of dread the original movie so expertly delivered. Rather than playing as a tough space marine mowing down waves to Xenomorphs, you can as play Amanda Ripley, the daughter of heroine Ellen Ripely, stuck on board a space station with just one of them. So grab that motion tracker and start preying.

Routine

Routine

Developer: Lunar Software

Publisher: Lunar Software

Release date: TBA 2014

Routine is another horror game set in space, but what separates it from the rest are its low-fi aesthetics and mysterious backdrop (also, killer robots). We’re not really sure what this game is about, but from the little we saw one thing is certain – this beautiful indie game prefers horror over action, and that makes it great in our book.

SOMA

SOMA

Developer: Frictional Games

Publisher: Frictional Games

Release date: TBA 2014

With games like Penumbra: Black Plague and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Frictional Games have shown time and again they knows horror. The studio’s next project, SOMA, looks fairly familiar to those who played the previous games, but strays from the realm of cogs and steam into that of blinking lights and cybernetic tentacles. From the teasers we saw prior to the game’s reveal, players will have to deal with thinking machines and robots experiencing an existential crisis.

The Forest

The Forest

Developer: Endnight Games

Publisher: Endnight Games

Release date: TBA 2014

This gorgeous survival game looks peaceful and serene by day, but when night falls The Forest shows its true colors. As a survivor of a plane crash, the player will have to gather food, craft shelter and sing with the bird during the daytime, and then fight for his life against a tribe of naked cannibals as the moon rises. Endnight Games have created a survival horror game in the truest sense – warping it in a forest filled with beauty, life and death.
