World of Speed was announced today by Slightly Mad Studios, developer of Need for Speed: Shift and Project CARS. World of Speed is a (lets’ take a deep breath) AAA MMO arcade racing free-to-play title.

Unlike the studio’s dirving simulator Project CARS, this new racing game is opting to be more of an arcade racer and an enjoyable experience for as many people as possible.

According to Slightly Mad, World of Speed will feature “an endless garage of cars” ranging from everyday city runners to the fastest super cars to the most iconic cars in the history of auto racing. Races will take place on realistic tracks from all around the world, including London and San Francisco.

“At the heart of World of Speed lies a unique massive multiplayer online experience which incorporates a dynamic social elements and entirely new ways to compete in a racing video game – from an individual to a team level,” said Ian Bell, Chief Executive Officer of Slightly Mad Studios.

World of Speed will be entering closed beta on the PC in Spring 2014. Watch more screenshots below.
