Online retail giant Amazon has acquired Double Helix, the video game studio behind Killer Instinct and the Strider reboot. This piece of new was reported, and then confirmed, by TechDrunch.

The official statement read: “Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers.”

No details about the deal were disclosed, but according to the site, Amazon’s purchase includes the stuff, all 75 of which are now all Amazon employees, and all IP belonging to the studio at the time. Amazon has also confirmed that all of Double Helix current released titles and ongoing projects will continue as planned for the near future.

This move might have something to do with the rumored andriod console the company is working on, or maybe is an attempt to strengthen it’s relatively new game devision – Amazon Game Studio.
