The month of December is coming to an end, and with it the year 2013. This is the perfect time to hand out awards for our favorite titles that came out this year, and finally choose the very best game of 2013.

There were some very good games this year, and some that didn’t impress us all that much (and even downright disappointed us). The GamersPack crew has sieved through them all to bring you the truly best games of the year and give them their due rewards.

GamersPack presents: The Best Games of 2013:

Best Action-Adventure of 2013

The Last of Us

“The Last of Us has an engaging story, intense combat, a great cast of characters and terrifying enemies.Playing through the game and experiencing this post-apocalypse together with Joel and Ellie is without a doubt one of the best experiences I had in 2013” – Guy Yuval

Best Role-Playing Game of 2013

Ni No Kuni

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is not just a beautiful JRPG, it is the only video game made by Studio Ghibli (so far). The studio is mostly known for animated films like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, and together with Level-5, thet crafted one amazing game with captivating visuals, a creative story, witty dialog and a world that just won’t let you stop playing.” – Guy Yuval

Best Shooter of 2013

Battlefeild 4

“Battlefield 4 delivers in every possible aspect. The single-player campaign might not be above average, but compared to what had from the series so far, it’s almost a masterpiece. As is traditional, the multiplayer is the game’s main attraction and it is simply excellent, fun, and most importantly – diverse. It’s a serious force on the field of battle for this and the next generation.” – Guy Yuval

Best Fighting Game of 2013

Injustice

“When the guys behind Mortal Kombat bring you a fighting game set in the universe of DC comics, everybody wins. Unless you’re playing against me online, in which case you’ll definitely lose.” – Avi Kasiermann

Best Racing Game of 2013

Gran Turismo 6

“We had some great racing going on this year, but we had to give it up fir Gran Turismo 6. It managed to show it’s love for cars and racing through a long and varied single-player career, amazing roster of cars and a brand new driving physics model. It also takes you to the moon.” – Tomer Blau

Best Strategy Game of 2013

StarCraft II Heart of the Swarm

“StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm feels like a whole new game. With over 20 different missions, a deep and immersive story, unforgettable characters and new multiplayer experiences, there’s no way you’ll be able to give up control over the monstrous Zerg swarm.” – Avi Kaisermann

Best Adventure Game of 2013

Beyond Two Souls

“Beyond: Two Souls is an emotional adventure though the life of Jodie and Aiden, filled with thrills, chills, action and romance from start to finish. Since it is almost an interactive movie, it doesn’t have a lot to offer in terms of actual gameplay. It does, however, have one of the best stories of 2013 – both in video games and movies.” – Guy Yuval

Best Horror Game of 2013

Outlast

“It’s been a good year for horror games, with lots of new titles, but none of them made me jump, scream and weep silently like Outlast did. With masterfully crafted atmosphere and scares, Outlast doesn’t just tell a disturbing story in a very creepy settings – it is genuinely scary.” – Guy Yuval

Best Sports Game of 2013

NBA 2K14

“It seems that nothing can stop the NBA 2K series. NBA 2K14 is another great installment in the franchise that brings a basketball video game to a whole new level. This is the closest you’re going to get to playing in the NBA, without actually playing in the NBA…” – Avi Kaisermann

Best Platformer of 2013

Rayman Legends

“In an industry of brownish, grayish action titles, Rayman Legends stands out like an exotic flower in a nuclear wasteland. It’s charming, whimsical and always finds new ways to surprise and delight to no end. Setting the weird analogies aside, Rayman Legends takes you on a wonderful journey you’ll never want to see the end of.” – Guy Yuval

Best Open World of 2013

GTA V

“What can I say about Grand Theft Auto V that hasn’t already been said? It’s a GTA game, which means a huge open world with tons of things to do, crazy but awesome characters, a story filled with violence and humor and, of course, cars. GTA V has all that and much, much more so just go play it if you haven’t all ready.” – Guy Yuval

Best Graphics of 2013

Ryse Son of Rome

“In Ryse: Son of Rome you can really fill the new generation, the fluent gameplay, the voice commands of the Kinect 2.0 and the intense bloody battles. But what really makes the game uniqe is the amazing graphics, from the alleys of Rome to the wild areas of Britons. You could really fill like your are there with Marius, fighting the barbarians or romeing through the dark forsts of England.” – Shay Pinhassi

Best Soundtrack of 2013

Rayman Legends

“The best levels in Rayman Legends manage to combine the painting-like art and charming renditions of familiar songs to create a race of beauty and rhythm. It’s an almost magical experience, and one you’ll want to re-live again and again.” – Guy Yuval

Best Story of 2013

Bioshock Infinite

“It’s hard not to spoil the game when discussing it, so let’s just say Bioshock Infinite has one of the best plotlines in video games in recent years and offers a long and immersive campaign that will stick with you long after you’ve finished it.” – Guy Yuval

Best New IP of 2013

The Last of Us

“Leave it to Naughty Dog to end the world and all of civilization with a whole new kind of apocalypse we haven’t seen before. The Last of Us takes the tried cliche of a zombie apocalypse and transforms it to the most original and interesting new IP you’ve seen all year. We can’t wait to go back to Joel’s and Ellie’s world and see what new terrific and horrible adventures await us in the future.” – Guy Yuval

Best New Character of 2013

Trevor

“Trevor Philips  from GTA V is a psychotic man-child with a complete disregard of human life (including his own) and a twisted world view. He is a sadistic and depraved monster that would put a bullet between your eyes if you so much as mention his Canadian accent. But at least he is honest, and we love him for that. He is also the perfect protagonist for a game such as GTA V.” – Guy Yuval

Biggest Surprise of 2013

Dragons Crown

“Dragon’s Crown proves that the side-scrolling beat ’em up genre is still alive and kicking (no pun intended). I’m so glad it didn’t flew under our radar. Who would have thought that a game with such… imaginative character design and simple gameplay could be so much fun?” – Avi Kaisermann

Biggest Disappointment of 2013

Aliens Colonial Marines

“The Alien movie franchise has always held the potential to make a perfect transition into a video game franchise, but Aliens: Colonial Marines doesn’t do it justice. it’s an ugly, repetitive and dull experience that will alienate even the most devoted sci-fi fans out there.” – Guy Yuval

Best Game of 2013

Bioshock Infinite

“Bioshock Infinite has pretty much everything – a long and captivating single-player campaign, amazing settings, tons of action, relatable characters and great visuals. Nobody can afford to miss out on this great first-person shooter and GamersPack’s game of the year.” – Guy Yuval
