Child of Light is a love letter to classic fairy tales and JRPGs from Far Cry 3 director Patrick Plourde.

After it was first revealed last month with nothing but a few details and a vague Vine video, Ubisoft has finally shown the game in a more official capacity. The company was also release a first full trailer and a batch of screenshots and concept art for us to get a better look at the beautiful 2D sidescroller.

Child of Light is the story of Aurora, a young princess with a pure heart whose is brought to the kingdom of Lemuria. Aurora is on a quest to defeat the Black Queen who stole the sun, the moon and the stars.

During her adventures, Aurora steps into a gorgous world “akin to an interactive painting” to explore, solve puzzles and fight monsters in turn-based combat, just like in classic JRPGs. The key to winning these battles are good timing and using the right elemental attacks for counter the enemy’s attacks, as seen in the trailer above.

Child of Light is coming to current and next-generation consoles, as well as the PC, sometime in 2014. Below you’ll find screenshots and art from the game.
