Microsoft has released a new video showing a proof-of-concept Xbox system called IllumiRoom. The new system uses a Kinect and a projector to “augment the area surrounding a television screen with projected visualizations to enhance the traditional living room entertainment experience.”
According to Microsfot, the IllumiRoom can be used to “change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences.”
In the video below you can see effects like explosions, fire and falling snow being projected into the living room in real-time. Microsoft promises that there are no added effects in post production.
More information about the system will be available around the end of April, at ACM CHI 2013 conference in Paris, France. Here’s the video.
