Techland, the studio behind the fairly successful zombie game Dead Island, is now working on a new IP code named Project Hell – a hack and slash dark fantasy game born of a weapon mod in Dead Island.

According to the game’s official blog, the studio heads were impressed by how “chopping monsters frozen by magic spells using two-handed swords is brutally fun and addictive,” and decided to put together a small team to work on a prototype.

“Our (Techland) main goal is to make a game we can all enjoy playing so don’t expect unicorns and fairies – we prefer breaking through hordes of undead minions only to slaughter their devilish and loathsome masters in a bloody boss-fight,” reads the blog.

Some screenshots from the title were released, showing the work-in-progress level design and one monster. No official release date or intended platforms were announced, since the project is still in early stages of development.
