2K games has released a new developer diary video of Spec Ops: The Line, Yager Development’s military shooter set in the ruins of Dubai. In this video, senior designer Shawn Frison tells us all about the game’s setting and narrative, and how both the city and the characters themselves change during the events taking place in the game. At one point Frison mentions how players’ choices can affect the characters demeanor and the way certain events will unfold.

It seems like narrative and storytelling are key elements in this gritty and dark military shooter, and while there is of course plenty of action, Frison argues that the main focus of the game is to deliver an intense and deep story. When asked about the studio’s sources of inspiration for making The Line, Frison cites fiction and movies like The Heart of Darkness, Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down.

Spec Ops: The Line is set for release during the second half of 2012 on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Be sure to check out the entire developer diary below for more details about the game, and don’t forget about the awesome new screenshots as well.
