We haven’t heard anything about A Hat in Time for a long time. In fact, I almost completely forgot about the game, and was rather surprised when I spotted the new trailer you see above.
In this colorful 3D platformer, you play as Hat Kid, a young girl with a hat and an umbrella who’s trying to recover fuel for her spaceship. In her quest, she will go through beautiful 3D environments that, according to the trailer, contain trains, murder mysteries, DJs and the city’s nightlife. Oh, and the game supports 2-player local and online co-op, which is pretty awesome.
The developers over at Gears for Breakfast were inspired by classic platformers like Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Psychonauts when creating A Hat in Time. While we are already getting a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie in Yooka-Laylee, A Hat in Time looks like its own special little adventure.
A Hat in Time will finally be released in 2017 on Steam. If you want to try the game right now, you can already pre-order it and gain access to the beta over at the official site.
